I am always looking at my work and wondering how I can improve it. The two commonest approaches are manuscript reviews and designing new covers. I recently undertook such a review of the covers to the Sorrow Song Trilogy books and I was very happy with the end result. I am not sure how I found it but I recently came across this photograph:

The photograph was taken by New York photographer Stephen Rosenbach in 2010. It struck me immediately as a very powerful image. I appreciate Art Deco design, which is a fundamental influence on this figure of Atlas. I could see in it a new cover for Eugenica. I approached Steve through Flickr and he kindly gave me permission to use the photograph as the basis for a new cover, this is the end result:

I removed all of the background to make the image of Atlas dominate the cover. I think that the white font contrasts very strongly with the black background and the grey tones of the original photograph. It even lends a kind of film noir feel to the image.
