I certainly have not moved very quickly since I last wrote about marketing in September, Marketing, like all other oceans, is full of sharks. That was quite a negative experience. Thankfully, I opted to be cautious and invested no more of my money than I could afford to lose and, of course, lose it I did. This time round I did a bit of research before taking the plunge. I am glad that I did because I feel prompted to write about a more positive experience.
First, let me say that I had a clear outcome in mind when I decided to market one of my books; to get my work noticed. It seems to me that attracting attention is very necessary step towards everything else, more reviews, more sales, fame and fortune, etc. To that end I decided to give my book away for free. I had not decided which one it was going to be at this stage, as I had seven to choose from it seemed better to do some further investigation on which genres might stand the best chance of being successful. My hope is that a successful campaign for one book might lead to the others enjoying a similar response.
Second, I was determined to do some work on choosing the marketing company I was going to invest in. I chose Just Kindle Books for several reasons that included cost, a positive reaction in the search results, and a professional look to the website. I chose the Premium Promotion Plus, which costs $48.

Sure enough, on the due date, there was my book!

I went with my most recent novel, The Devil Within Us, because it seems that thrillers come a close second to romance books in popularity.
I booked my campaign to run for five days from 10 to 14 February, 2021. After the first day I recorded 173 downloads. I am quite happy with that. If 10% percent of those turn into positive reviews for my book then I will be very happy. However, before I get ahead of myself, I have to remember that this is only day one and it is not sensible to judge the whole campaign on the first day. I will come back to this campaign again very soon though.
