Coenred has discovered that the lone horseman who approached his camp at Tadcaster is in fact Eorl Gyrth, the brother of Harold Godwinson, King of England. Eorl Gyrth is the only representative of his house, however, King Harold rides at the head of one of the largest Saxon armies ever to take to the field. He has drawn men from all the lands he has passed through to augment the soldiers from the south. It is symbolic of England being united against a common enemy. It is also the beginning of a relationship between Coenred and Harold, Huscarl and King, that will blossom in the weeks to come.
