The City of York is free, but the battles has not been won yet. Even as the people cheer the king and his army, they wave goodbye to many of their men as well. Mildryth is one of those women. Although Coenred seems to her to be one the strongest, most of vital warriors, dressed in heavy armour, carrying weapons deadly to the enemy, and in the company of other grim huscarls, she cannot escape the feeling that fortune might turn against them yet. For Berctauld, a former frydman now turned to religion, that call to arms is no less as strong. Although he carries no weapons he joins the column marching to Stamford Bridge. He will be a healer and a friend to those who fall, not least determined to ensure that no dies alone on that fateful field.
