Prince Olaf, the son of King Hardrada, is given the unenviable task of convincing the surviving Vikings gathered at Riccal that there is no point in continuing the fight. King Harold offers him an opportunity to return home with some diginity, but claims the bulk of the Norse fleet. For Prince Olaf this is inevitable as of the three hundred ships he only has enough men left to crew thirty vessels.

For Coenred and his huscarls, the end of the battle is welcome. Thrydwulf has some sad news for them concerning one more of their fellowship having fallen.
