Despite being fully vaccinated our son, who lives with us, contracted Covid-19.
Despite not being vaccinated neither my wife nor myself contracted the virus throughout our period of isolation.
We all took the required lateral-flow tests, which returned a positive for him and two negatives for us.
Also, as required here in England, we all took PCR tests. Again, he returned a positive and we were negative.
Very early in 2020 both myself and my wife were exposed to Covid-19 while in Rome. We both developed mild symptoms, something like very light colds. In fact, if my wife only contacted the authorities on our return to England from Italy because she is a nurse and wanted to ensure that it would be safe to return to work; she ended up being isolated in hospital against her will!
Our son believes that he contracted the virus after attending a New Year’s Eve event. As he was fully vaccinated the venue did not require that he provide a negative test result before attending, only those not vaccinated had to meet that requirement. This condition exists despite the fact that NHS England state that those people who are vaccinated can still contract and transmit the virus; which makes it a stupid requirement. If the authorities genuinely wanted to stop of the spread of the virus then surely EVERYONE should be tested before attending venues?
Another illogical policy decision, even though he was the one who tested positive our son was given period of isolation 24 hours shorter than ours! I am not sure what benefit there is in detaining two people who consistently return negative test results for an extra day in isolation?
