The wonderful world of weird! This book just keeps giving me surprises. I am not sure if I will be able to use all of them, but I know that having more to work with is always better than less. William Blake claimed that the road of excess leads to the palace of wisdom, I am not sure if he was referring to writing but I am going to use it as such. The road to the end of this book is paved with an excess of ideas, I just hope that the palace at the end is indeed one of wisdom!
To be honest, I still do not know where the story is going. It has been bothering me lately, but I am trying not to let it distract me. Something interesting is going on at the moment. I think that because I am not writing to the format that I am now used to that I am beginning to feel a little anxious about what I am doing. I have a protagonist but no real antagonist. I do have a vague idea of the antagonist, but it is not a person, it is a thing. It is a concept that is going to need further developing. I have to remember that this book is still very much in the first draft phase, or maybe that should be the first one and a half draft phase.
Anxiety can be a block to writing. I remember when I was writing The War Wolf that I had an episode where I became very anxious about the whole book. I stopped writing for several weeks, but I did continue with the necessary research. The block was broken by going back and reading the manuscript again. It proved very cathartic. By the end of the reading, I knew that I had something worth persevering with. The situation with Pomerania is not quite the same, certainly, it is not as dramatic, and I have re-read the manuscript several times now. Each time I come away believing that this is going to be something special. I think that I am looking for is some kind of compass for creativity. I know that this book is taking me in several directions, I would just like to identify which one is which.
