I do not know if this is going to turn into a regular series of posts but I thought that I might begin with that anticipation. I have started revising The War Wolf, the first of the above trilogy. It has been awhile since I last looked at the manuscript, I suspect at least a year, and I have to admit that I had to force myself to begin, but not to continue. I read the first three chapters and thoroughly enjoyed it! I am not sure if there is something narcissistic about enjoying your own work so much, but I was buzzing by the time I finished for the day. To be honest, I had to stop myself from starting another chapter! I want to do this properly, reading slowly and identifying errors as accurately as possible. It takes some discipline not to get sucked into the story as I hope readers do.
After this first experience I think that I am doing the right thing. The idea of offering all three books in one volume appeals to me more and more. Also, the amended manuscripts are going to replace the current versions, so that is a bonus in itself. I am not expecting to find many grievous errors, I have reviewed the text several times before, but it is surprising how even simple mistakes seem to creep into the work. This is one reason why I do not want to rush the process. Slow and steady will win the day.
I told my wife that I thought that The War Wolf was a good story; she looked at me as if I was an idiot and exclaimed, ‘of course it is!’ It’s uplifting to have that kind of encouragement!
