In Pomerania 13 I mentioned that I now had an ending for the book, which remains true, at that this was the result of a creative epiphany, which is also true, but now I realise that I did not appreciate at the time just what an holistic event this actually was. Not only do I have the conclusion to the story, I now understand the full premise of the book. This moment of enlightenment is one of the most profound things to happen to me as a writer. In respect of all of my previous works the ability to see the overall concept of the book has always come when I have neared completion. Up until then the process has been piecemeal, achieved in stages, and realised without too much surprise.
I knew that Pomerania was going to be something different from the moment I started writing the first draft, and not just simply because this manuscript is different to any other first draft that I have written before. The story possessed a force that appeared to be all of its own. Obviously, it was not, it was mine. My creativity was the force in question, but I did not at first understand exactly where it was coming from or going to for that matter. Now I do. Not only that but I understand the why as well.
As a result of this creative development I am going to turn the first draft into the second draft and start revising what I have written. To ensure that it now adheres to my new understanding I expect that I will have to rewrite some passages before I can begin work on the new chapters. I am fine with that. It is all part of the process. I have the energy and the passion to complete this work and I know that it is going to be entirely different to anything that I have ever written before.
