I live with chronic pain. I have done for most of my life, although members of the medical profession have not always acknowledged the fact. According the medical books people who have Myotonia Congenita are not supposed to be in pain, but I did not write those academic tomes and, from what I have seen, … Continue reading The week just gone can be summed up by one word; pain!

Eugenica is finished!
Well, as finished as a book ever can be while the author is still alive. What I mean by that is that I am sure I will find some fault with it and go back and start messing around just like George Lucas (only with better results I hope). I have submitted the book to … Continue reading Eugenica is finished!
It’s a Milestone not a Millstone
Writing a book is a long process. I know that Edgar Wallace was reputed to have turned out entire novels in only 2 or 3 days but then he never actually sat and wrote them, rather he dictated them onto wax cylinders and left them for secretaries to type up. He also rarely edited his … Continue reading It’s a Milestone not a Millstone
Mindfulness, Observing, and discovering a fad before it became popular.
Just recently I have been hearing talk about something referred to as ‘mindfulness’. It seems to be in vogue. My wife mentioned it a week or two ago and a trainer on a work course that I am attending also brought it to everyone’s attention. I found this both rewarding and a little baffling. The … Continue reading Mindfulness, Observing, and discovering a fad before it became popular.
Travels and Disability
Once again I find that life gets in the way of the things that I want to do, like writing for instance. Of course I had no intention of getting so distracted but it happened anyway. There is always an element of opportunity in these things; however, you just have to be canny enough to spot it when it is there.
Falling ill was, I suppose, inevitable. It is that time of the year, colds, get passed around and no matter how healthy you think you are someone is going to infect you. I got infected. Unfortunately, because I have Myotonia Congenita as well, contracting even a common cold is tiresome; literally. As my muscles are … Continue reading
Back to the Writing Then!
With the New Year now actually under way it seems that things can return to normal. I am, in a creative sense at least, grateful for that. Although I tried to do some work over the holidays it just did not seem to be enough; I was left feeling frustrated. This is not a complaint, … Continue reading Back to the Writing Then!
Happy New Year
I have never been a fan of New Year celebrations, I prefer the Christmas festival part of the holiday. I agree with the U2’s lyric, ‘nothing changes on New Year’s Day’. I do not think that this is as cynical as it may sound. The fact is that life has taught me that nothing in … Continue reading Happy New Year
Time, again!
Do you ever get the feeling that you will never have enough time? I don’t mean just in terms of your expected lifespan, I mean to do all the things that you want to do. I am beginning to feel that way. It is a strange sensation. It gives rise to feelings of frustration, stress, … Continue reading Time, again!
There is no Them, only Us
In the wake of recent events in Lebanon, France, and Kenya I have been thinking about U2’s lyric, “There is no them, only us”. At first consideration this might seem like a naïve statement but actually it is not. The fact is that there is only one species of human being. Everything that divides us … Continue reading There is no Them, only Us
